I’m often asked by friends and family why I wrote a book, and was it difficult to self-publish. Here are my responses to those questions.
Why did I write a book?
There are a number of reasons why people write books. Some want to increase credibility in a particular field or profession, or create passive income. Others simply have a desire to entertain or enjoy writing. I wrote a book for two reasons:
- As stated on the landing page of my website, my purpose for writing a book is to help others benefit from my personal knowledge and considerable experience in financial services.
- I wanted to learn how to self-publish.
Was it difficult to self-publish my book?
The process of writing and self-publishing a book was not difficult, and much less expensive than you may think. Based on my experience, an electronic book can be self-published for under $500, including a basic website, and in less than three months. The overall cost can go up depending on how much you spend on advertising and promotion. I spent a little more time and money because I taught myself how to do it from scratch.
The amount of instructional information available online can be overwhelming, which is why I created a DIY guide on How to self-publish a book and launch an author website quickly and cost-effectively. In the guide I synthesize all of the best practices into a four-step process, providing you with the most efficient method for writing and self-publishing a book, and launching your website.
If you are considering writing a book or have already started one, I highly recommend that you review this presentation before moving forward.
